NYPD rescues kayakers stranded in Jamaica Bay

In a dramatic rescue, cops used an NYPD helicopter to scoop up two people who had tipped out of their kayaks in Jamaica Bay on Saturday.

The NYPD got a report shortly after 5 p.m. that the two were in the water.

The chopper spotted one of them clinging desperately to his boat, and two NYPD SCUBA divers went in the water to pull him into a “rescue basket.’’

That victim told the divers that his friend had also fallen out of his kayak, and pointed the officers in the direction he was last seen heading.

The divers found the second kayaker and also got him aboard.

The two were taken to Floyd Bennett field in Brooklyn, where they were examined by medics and declined medical attention.
